Goodbye Paris, hello Tlaxcala!

Paris Elite16 Beach Pro Review

The tournament in Paris was a great success! On the women's side, all the current top teams were present and the final was between the two best teams in the world, Ana Patrica/Duda from Brazil and Nuss/Kloth from the USA. The match was played over three sets, and it was filled with amazing rallies and lots of fun. The bronze medal match was between two European teams: Gottardi/Menegatti from Italy versus Stam/Schoon from the Netherlands. It was also an amazing game with spectacular rallies. Valentina Gottardi, who is only 20 years old, played exceptionally well. The Dutch won 2-0 and took the bronze medal.

On the men's side, two of the best teams in the world, the Vikings (Mol/Sorum from Norway) and Ahman/Hellvig, missed the tournament. With these two teams out, I would bet all my chips on the USA team Benesh/Partain. But I was wrong, the USA team lost to Cottafava/Nicolai in the Round of 12 by 2-0 and went home. As a result, the Europeans dominated the event. The final was between Perusic/Schweiner of Czechia and Ehlers/Wickler from Germany. It was an amazing final with crazy rallies, and it was played over three sets. In the end, Perusic and Schweiner took the gold medal. The bronze medal match was between Horl/Horst from Austria and Brouwer/Meeuwsen from the Netherlands. Again, it was a three-set match with great rallies, and the Dutch won the bronze medal.

The venue is fantastic. The mythic Court Philippe Chatrier is filled with sand and transformed into a perfect beach volleyball court. The second court is a smaller one, but also with good conditions. The video coverage was good too, I watched all the matches on the VBTV (Volleyball TV). One game that I recommend you to watch if you didn't, it’s the Pool D match Pedro Solberg/Guto (BRA) v Brouwer/Meeuwsen (NED) on Friday 29 September. It had everything you could expect in a beach volleyball game. A big shout out to the referee Hobi Nina (AUT) of this match, she did an amazing job controlling the players.

The next stop is the Tlaxcala

The Beach Volley World Championship will take place in Tlaxcala, Huamantla, and Apizaco, Mexico from October 6th to October 15th. This is the first World Championship in 20 years to be held on Latin American sand and will feature 48 women's and 48 men's teams. I'm really excited about this event and have my bets on the women's team of Ana Patrica/Duda, and on the men's team of Mol/Sorum. Let's see who emerges victorious!
